IaC but an Effect
Yesterday I was experimenting with alchemy.run - an Effect-y IaC library. It’s a neat analogy, Effect builds a “program” that you then execute, so it’s idiomatic to build a “stack” instead, with the same Effect syntax. The neat bit is you can parameterize the stack you’ve built and trivially get your entire stack to work in production, PR preview links, development, etc - because it’s a single definition.
It’s a bit magical but lends itself nicely to stuff I’ve tried to build before where an action is commenting on a PR - the entire lifecycle lives in one place. I don’t think this replaces terraform IaC for real work (it’s beta and slop-forked) but I will definitely use it in side projects.
